Custer County Court hears 4 Monday

BROKEN BOW – The Custer County Court heard 4 criminal cases Monday morning.

Charles Fisher, Jr., 57 of Broken Bow, made his first appearance in court to face an allegation of failing to reregister on the sex offender registry, a Class IIIA felony. His case will move to the pretrial phase.

James L. Barta, 33 of Broken Bow, reached a plea agreement with the court in his case that resulted in a reduction of charges. In exchange for a guilty plea to 2 possession of controlled substance allegations, initially a Class IV felony and infraction, and 1 possession or use of drug paraphernalia charge, an infraction, Barta have the felony reduced to a Class I misdemeanor, and pay associated fines for each charge.

Jeremiah C. Cranwell, 33 of Callaway, appeared before the court for an arraignment in his case. Cranwell is charged with one count of alleged theft by unlawful taking up to $500, 3rd offense, a Class IV felony. His case was continued to July, as a tentative plea agreement is in the works.

Matthew T. Foster, 49 of Aurora, Colorado, returned to court for a hearing in his case. Foster faces 5 allegations: possession of a deadly weapon while committing a felony, a Class III felony, 2 counts of possession of a controlled substance, Class IV felonies, carrying a concealed weapon, a Class I misdemeanor, and possession or use of drug paraphernalia, an infraction. He had reached a tentative plea agreement and had his case continued to August.
