Broken Bow Legion Baseball – Weekend Recap

Broken Bow American Legion baseball teams hosted Imperial for a juniors and seniors doubleheader on Saturday at Paul Brown Field.

The Bow juniors fell to Imperial 12-1.  The difference was the fifth inning.  Imperial led 3-1 at the end of four but scored nine runs in the fifth to put the game away.  Imperial pitcher Jarrett Peterson was untouchable throwing a no hitter, did not walk a batter and struck out nine on the afternoon.  Broken Bow was able to take advantage of some Imperial miscues in the first inning to generate their only run of the game.

Imperial held off Broken Bow 7-4 in the seniors game.  Broken Bow received a solid pitching performance from Gavin Goodner who went 5 and 2/3rd innings striking out 14 in the game.  Goodner gave up six runs but all were unearned.  Imperial led 6-0 going to the bottom of the fifth when Broken Bow scored 3 runs to get back in the game.  Bow had a chance to get closer in the bottom of the sixth but left the bases loaded.  Imperial would add an insurance run in the top of the 7th.  Coy Wardyn hit his 2nd home run of the season in the bottom of the 7th but that would be the only run of the inning as Imperial held on for the victory.  Wardyn led the Broken Bow offense finishing 2 for 4 with 2 RBI and 1 run scored.

On Sunday, Broken Bow hosted McCook for a juniors only doubleheader.  It was all Broken Bow Sunday as the Bow juniors took game one 11-1 and won game two by a score of 12-1.  In game one, Coy Wardyn pitched a complete game for the win going five innings giving up one run on just two hits and striking out 4.  Wardyn was also the leader at the plate going 3 for 4 with 4 runs scored and 2 RBI.  Kayden Record also had a multi hit game finishing 2 for 3 with a run scored and 2 RBI.  In game two, Brice Chaplin pitched a complete game for the win.  Chaplin gave up just one run on one hit and struck out five.  Coy Wardyn was again one of the offensive leaders finishing 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI.  Owen Hartman also had a multi hit game going 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI.  The Bow juniors are now 10-8 on the season.
