SARGENT – The 2023 rendition of the Sargent Fair & Chokecherry Jamboree is right around the corner; this year, the festival’s theme is “Famous in a Small Town.”
The jamboree gets underway Friday evening with a cruise night to start at 6:30 p.m.; it will start at the E Free Church and go until 8, and run alongside a free-will donation hamburger feed. At 9 p.m., the tennis courts will spring to life as the teen dance, fundraiser for the FBLA, will take place.
On Saturday, the festival hits the ground running, or walking, with an 8 a.m. 5k. The event is a fundraiser for the Twin Loup volleyball team. Between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., vendors will set up shop in the park.
This year’s Little Miss Chokecherry will be crowned at 11, and between 12 and 4 water inflatables will be set up for youth of all ages. At 1 p.m., across the way from the park, FFA games will be held, and at 1:30, the “Pick a Duck” fundraiser for post-prom activities will take place.
The cakewalk will take place at 2, with the annual, hotly-anticipated pit spitting contest to follow at 2:30. Both will unfold at the park.
The 4-H muffin drop fundraiser for 4-H, and the parade lineup, will take place at 3. The Ugly Truck Contest will be held at 3:30 in front of the E Free Church, with a $10 entry fee.
The parade will take place at 5 p.m., followed by BBQ in the park with live music by Tazy Scott, and a Methodist pie and ice cream fundraiser; the alumni dance will follow at 9 pm.
Sunday morning promises church in the city park at 10:30, and then a pancake feed at 11:30. Between 3 and 5 p.m. the Chokecherry Jamboree will close with its traditional Dennis Seidel Memorial Water Fight on Main Street. A full list of the weekend’s events is attached.
