Broken Bow Legion Juniors go 2-1 at Home Tournament

Broken Bow hosted the American Legion juniors mid summer classic tournament at Paul Brown Field over the weekend.

Bow started the tournament with a 9-8 loss to Dannebrog/Cairo/Boelus on Friday.  DCB led 5-1 after three innings then scored four runs in the top of the fourth to stretch their lead out to 9-1.  Bow would answer though with four runs in the bottom of the fourth to get back in it and then mounted a comeback in the bottom of the sixth when they scored 3 runs to climb to within a run but that would be as close as Broken Bow would get as DCB held on for the win.  Brice Chaplin led the offensive attack finishing 3 for 4 with a run scored and 3 RBI.

On Saturday, Broken Bow faced Haswell Construction of Plattsmouth.  It looked as though Broken Bow would cruise to victory after building a 10-1 lead after three innings but Haswell fought back scoring seven runs in innings 4 thru 6.  Broken Bow would add three runs in the bottom of the fifth to help secure a 13-8 win.  Brice Chaplin again led the offense going 3 for 3 including a triple and double with 3 runs scored and 5 RBI.  Max Denson was a perfect 3 for 3 with 3 runs scored and 3 RBI.  Coy Wardyn also had a multi hit game going 2 for 4 with 4 runs scored.

Broken Bow concluded the tournament with a win over St. Paul on Sunday.  Broken Bow led 3-2 after the first inning and added 2 runs in the 3rd and 2 more in the sixth to secure a 7-2 win.  Brice Chaplin concluded a big tournament at the plate going 2 for 3 with 1 run scored and 3 RBI.  Max Denson was 2 for 4 with 1 run scored and 1 RBI and Owen Hartman also had a multi hit game finishing 2 for 4.

Broken Bow was to play Imperial Saturday evening but the game was rained out and not made up.  Broken Bow and Imperial each finished 2-1 for the tournament.  Imperial was awarded the tournament championship based on runs allowed.  St. Paul and Plattsmouth each finished 2-2 and DCB was 1-3.

The Bow juniors are now 5-5 on the season.
