LEXINGTON – Fifteen Dawson County 4-H’ers competed in the Life Challenge Contest on Wednesday, May 31, at the Dawson County Extension Office in Lexington.
Family and consumer science were the focus of the 4-H Life Challenge Contest. Participants judged quick breads, shorts, and pillows, gave oral reasons, and took a quiz.
The top scorers in the Junior, Intermediate, and Senior divisions received medals.
In the Junior Division, Megan Walahoski of Overton earned gold, Barrett Hunke of Lexington earned a silver medal, and Cozad’s Michelle McArdle earned a bronze.
In the Intermediate Division, Overton’s Paige Walahoski took home the gold medal Cozad’s Mollie Spradlin the silver, and Melissa Montano of Kearney the bronze.
Wesley Thompson of Lexington was awarded gold in the Senior Division, and Jaden Hunke, also of Lexington, the silver medal.

In the Junior Division, Megan Walahoski earned a purple ribbon, and Lexington’s Barrett Hunke, Josue Casanova, and Gabby Caraway earned blues, as did Michelle McArdle of Cozad.
Purple ribbons in the Intermediate division went to Paige Walahoski, Mollie Spradlin, Melissa Kearney’s Melissa Montano, and Lexington’s Millie Pepplitsch and Bristol McConville. Terrence Bliven of Lexington earned a blue ribbon, and Kearney’s Maya Soria a red.
Lexington’s Wesley Thompson and Jaden Hunke took home purple ribbons in the contest’s Senior Division.
Andrea Nisley, Extension Educator, Mike Wolff, 4-H Extension Assistant, and Sarah Treffer, 4-H Summer Intern conducted the event.
