Nebraska high school rodeo contestants competed at Atkinson and Valentine this past weekend.
Among the area highlights, the unofficial results showed Coy Johnston of Stapleton winning the steer wrestling on Saturday at Atkinson and again on Sunday in Valentine. Johnston posted a winning time of 4.73 seconds on Saturday and his winning time on Sunday was 4.92.
Other area highlights on Saturday included Tate Johnston of Thedford teaming with JT Lantis of Hershey to win the team roping with a time of 8.01 seconds and Jace Hurlburt of Arcadia won the goat tying in a winning time of 8.62 seconds.
On Sunday, Sid Miller of Merna posted the winning time in the tie down roping at 10.29 seconds. There was only one qualified ride Sunday in the saddle broncs and that belonged to Kaleb Hurt of Callaway who posted a score of 57 to win the event. Ella Switzer of Burwell won the pole bending Sunday with a time of 21.233 seconds and Haylea Miller of Broken Bow won the girls cutting with a score of 72. There was only one qualified ride in the bull riding on Sunday and that belonged to Jason Ducker-Kursave of Arcadia who posted a score of 65 to win the event.
