BROKEN BOW – The Arrow Artists’ annual Spring Show will take place starting next week at the Broken Bow Public Library.

Arrow Artists Secretary Patricia Coslor says the show is the first of the year for the group and should prove to be one of its most exciting, as it could give area artists broader exposure through the Association of Nebraska Art Clubs (ANAC).

“They have a competition every year. This year’s is in June in Columbus, and the art show that we’re having is the pre-competition to see who can compete on the state level.”

Coslor says that the show at the library is open to Arrow Artist members only; and though the April deadline for entries into ANAC has passed, nobody should feel excluded.

“Anyone can join the Arrow Artists. We’re always looking for new members.”

Thirteen artists will be displaying their work; this year’s show will be judged by Broken Bow Elementary art teacher Ellen Kuhl on Saturday at 11 a.m. A critique will then take place at noon, which Coslor says is open to the public, though the judging is not.

Following the critique, Coslor says the Arrow Artists, in keeping with their mission of fostering curiosity and inclusivity in the arts, have something special planned.

“At 1:30 there will be a short workshop open to the public and free of charge. It’s just going to be a little, simple watercolor demonstration, the purpose of which is to get the public interested in art, and see if they may want to join our club.”

Coslor also says that while time to see the works on Saturday will be constrained due to the library’s hours, the community will have many chances to soak up the art throughout the month, including one tremendous opportunity.

“There’ll be an open house and reception at the library on Saturday, May 20 from 10 until noon, and will give the public a chance to meet the artists.”

The show will run all through May and into the first weekend in June. Those looking to learn more about the Arrow Artists, or their monthly events, can do so by connecting with them through their Facebook page.
