Two motorcyclists injured in crash near Callaway Sunday

CUSTER COUNTY – Two riders on a motorcycle were injured in a Sunday afternoon accident south of Callaway.

The Custer County Sheriff’s Office says three motorcycles were traveling southbound on Cozad Road, near Road 781, when they encountered a northbound pickup on a curve.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the oncoming truck veered into the motorcycles’ lane. In correcting itself, the truck kicked up dirt and gravel, which the bikes attempted to avoid, causing one of the motorcycles to leave the road, head down an embankment, and into a fence.

The driver Jason Brandt and rider Jennifer Brandt of Cozad were injured. One was transported first to Callaway Hospital, and then flown to CHI Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney; the second was flown directly to Good Samaritan from the scene of the accident.

The other two motorcyclists were not injured. The driver of the pickup is unknown as it left the scene.
