NORTH PLATTE – Of 440 students from 23 high schools competing for scholarships and prizes during the 54th annual Inter-High Day at North Platte Community College (NPCC) earlier this week, 10 area students took home extremely high honors.

The scholastic contest was spread across both north and south NPCC campuses. Students’ knowledge and skills were tested on a variety of subjects, ranging from diesel mechanics and electrical technology to accounting, chemistry, and poetry.

Schools earned points based on how well their students placed in each academic division. The top three point-earning schools received a plaque and a $500 scholarship to award a student of their choice.

Individual winners in each category received a medal and a $500 scholarship to NPCC, and those placing through 3rd place earned certificates for up to three summer credit hours of tuition to the college. Winners in applied technology competitions also received industry-based prizes related to their particular areas.

Arnold had an outstanding outing: Tallianna Martin won first in NPCC Facts, Ivy Tullis won second prize in the Dramatic Arts/Theater’s 9th and 10th Grade Division, and Lance Jones was awarded first place in Introduction to Business. In STEM & Engineering, Logan Recoy won third. Arnold was also crowned Top School in Division III.

Four Mullen students took home prizes: Maggie Haesler won second in Business Communications, Jeffery Forsen won second in Criminal Justice, and Allie Boyer garnered third-place honors in Microsoft Office Suite. Chase Rundbeck won third in Electrical Applied Technology.

Thedford brought back two prizes: Mariah Osienger’s first-place finish in Vocal Music, and Dayle Haake’s second-place finish in Medical Terminology.
