Sargent School Board releases statement regarding Principal Grint’s dismissal

SARGENT – The Sargent Public School Board has released a statement regarding the recent dismissal of Principal Cory Grint.

“We understand that there has been a lot of confusion and frustration regarding Mr. Grint’s employment status,” the release reads.

It continues, “As much as the Board would like to publicly share, Nebraska law prohibits the Board of Education from discussing confidential personnel matters. Needless to say, the Board has not taken these actions lightly. It became apparent to the Board over the past year that our school needed to improve in several areas.

“During this review, we identified several areas of particular concern. For instance, we expect our teachers to be evaluated regularly, though this had not been done for some time. To this end, a lack of accountability became apparent for both staff and students.

“Along these lines, our principal needs to hold an endorsement as a K-12 principal, especially if they sign a contract representing that they are endorsed in this area. Having a qualified principal who is committed to following through is a key trait we expect of that position.

“We hope the community understands the limitations imposed on us by state statute and gives us a chance to find a qualified replacement to continue to help Sargent Public Schools excel as a tremendous school district.”
