GOTHENBURG – According to several news sources, a Union Pacific train derailed early Tuesday morning in Gothenburg.
According to Union Pacific, at about 1:45 a.m. roughly 30 cars, all carrying coal, derailed 3 miles southeast of Gothenburg, and by 8 a.m.one of the mainline tracks near the derailment site had reopened.
No injuries have been reported, and Union Pacific’s heavy equipment has arrived on the scene to begin cleanup operations. Union Pacific is currently investigating the cause of the wreck and believes that the derailment should pose no threat to locals. The derailment is the third such incident to have occurred in the Midwest in recent weeks.
