Area State Wrestling Recap – Day Two

Championship Saturday at the NSAA state wrestling championships is set.  After two full days of competition, Broken Bow continues to lead the team standings in Class C with 98 points. Bishop Newman sits second with 83 points and Fillmore Central is third with 72 points. The Indians advanced three out into the championship finals of their weight class. Colton Kelley advanced to the finals at 132 lbs. with an 8-3 decision over Kaleb Baker of St. Paul.  Kelley is now 46-4 on the season and will face Tristan Burbach (47-0) of Central City in the finals.  Connor Wells advanced to the finals at 182 lbs.  Connor improved to 46-2 defeating Jackson Turner of Fillmore Central in the semifinals by a 5-4 decision.  He will wrestle Derek Wacker (37-2) of Yutan in the finals.  Cal Wells advanced to the championship match at 220 lbs.  Cal defeated Hank Hudson of Boone Central in the semi’s by a 5-2 decision.  Wells will wrestle Jaret Peterson of Chase County in the finals.  This will be the third meeting between the two this season with the two having split the previous two matches.

In Class D, Anselmo-Merna sits #3 in the team standings after day two.  Anselmo-Merna advanced two wrestlers into the finals.  Tristan Olson advanced to the championship match at 113 lbs.  Olson defeated Braxton Hammond of Southern Valley in the semifinals by a 6-5 decision.  Olson will wrestle Sebastian Sauceda (35-0) of Shelton in the finals.  Sid Miller advanced to the finals at 195 lbs.  Miller defeated Elijah Fjell of Shelby-Rising City in the semi’s by a 5-0 decision.  Miller will face Keegan Shuler (33-2) of Hitchcock County in the finals.

Other area highlights from Friday’s semifinal round in Class D saw Slate Micheel of Twin Loup advancing to the state finals at 220 lbs. with an 8-3 decision over Calib Svoboda of David City Aquinas.  Micheel will face Luke Pawloski (44-3) of Pleasanton in the finals.  Isaac Welch advanced to the finals at 285 lbs.  Welch will face Thomas Psota of Ravenna in the finals.

In other area action, Isaac White of Cozad remained unbeaten and advanced to the Class B 182 lb. championship match.

Championship Saturday begins with the consolation semi-finals beginning at 9 a.m. followed by 3rd and 4th place matches.  Championship matches begin at 3 p.m.  Central Nebraska’s Sports Source will provide full day coverage of today’s area matches on KBBN 95.3 FM and kbbn.com
