The boys and girls quarterfinals of the Mid Nebraska Activities Conference basketball tournament were played Wednesday. In games broadcast on KBBN radio, South Loup and Anselmo-Merna both advanced. South Loup held off Cody Kilgore 48-31. South Loup was led by Landyn Cole and Megan Donegan as each scored a team high 12 points. With the win, South Loup improves to 14-2 on the season. South Loup will play Anselmo-Merna in the girls semifinals. AM defeated Twin Loup 40-19. The Lady Coyotes improved to 12-4 overall and were led by Kirsten Myers who had a team high 14 points and Raylee Downing also finished in double figures with 12. Elsie Ottun and Abi Lewis led Twin Loup with six points each. On the other side of the bracket, top seed Mullen advanced with a 60-23 win over Sandhills Valley. Mullen will face Sandhills/Thedford in the semifinals as the Lady Knights advanced with a 35-24 win over Arthur County.
In the boys quarterfinal round played at Stapleton, Anselmo-Merna and Sandhills Valley each advanced. Anselmo-Merna knocked off the #3 seed South Loup in overtime 50-45. AM’s Dalton Duryea led all scorers with 16 points and Wyat Lambertson also finished in double figures with 12. South Loup was led by Owen Stallbaumer who had a team high 9 points. AM advances to play Sandhills Valley in the semifinals. The #2 seed defeated Arthur County 73-40. The Mavericks were led by Ethan Nicholson who had a game high 19 points and Cole Kramer also finished in double figures with 14. In the other half of the bracket, top seed Mullen advanced with a 69-37 win over Brady. The Broncos will face Sandhills Thedford in the semifinals as the Knights squeaked by Hyannis 52-49.
The MNAC semifinals will be played at North Platte Community College on Thursday. All semifinals will be broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM and kbbn.com.
