Broken Bow American Legion Juniors Baseball Team Ends Season at Area Tournament

The Broken Bow American Legion Juniors baseball team saw its season come to an end Saturday afternoon at the Class B Area 6 tournament in McCook. After dropping its first game to Gothenburg Friday 9-1, Bow fell to the Cozad Reds 22-5 in an elimination game. Cozad pounded out 21 hits on the day and were led by Evan Thome who went 4 for 5 with 3 RBI and Connor Wescoat drove in 5 runs. Cozad scored 9 runs in the first inning and 9 more in the fourth to put the game out of reach. The Bow Juniors end the season at 8-13. In other action Saturday from the Area 6 tournament, Kearney County handed Gothenburg its first loss of the tournament with a 14-4 victory and the top seed McCook remained undefeated in the tournament as they eliminated Holdrege 14-4.

On Sunday, Gothenburg stayed alive as they eliminated Cozad with an 8-5 victory. Carlos Magdelano threw 6 1/3 innings for Gothenburg striking out 8. Bryce Ryker went 2-4 with a double and 3 RBI to lead the Melons. Gothenburg will play Monday night against Kearney County. Kearney County suffered its first loss of the tournament Sunday when they lost to the top seed McCook 17-9. McCook is still undefeated in the tournament and advances to the championship game on Tuesday.
