LINCOLN — James Palmer, Nebraska’s first-team All-Big Ten guard, will return to the Huskers for his senior season, he confirmed by text to The World-Herald on Friday evening.
Palmer declared for the NBA draft but didn’t hire an agent, leaving him eligible to return as long as he withdrew by next Wednesday. The 6-foot-6 senior from Upper Marlboro, Maryland, had workouts with three franchises : Boston, Oklahoma City and the Los Angeles Clippers.
Last season, Palmer was third in the Big Ten in scoring in league games (18.8 points)and fifth in overall scoring (17.2).
He also averaged 4.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists while shooting 44.4 percent from the field and 73.8 percent on free throws.
Another Husker, forward Isaac Copeland, also filed for the NBA draft without an agent. The 6-9 senior from Raleigh, North Carolina, has had one workout. He hadn’t revealed a decision on his future as of Friday evening.
With Palmer’s decision, Nebraska will have at least three starters returning from a team that went 22-11 last season, including 13-5 in the Big Ten. Copeland, who averaged 12.9 points and 6.1 rebounds, would be a fourth.
