D8 District Track and Field Championship Results – Mullen Claims Boys and Girls Title

The Class D-8 track and field championships took place at Paxton on Wednesday (5/9). Mullen won the girls team championship with 106 points. Hitchcock County was 2nd with 87 points and Sandhills/Thedford was 3rd with 81 points. The Lady Broncos were led by Samantha Moore who qualified for state in three individual events. Moore qualified in the girls long jump, 100 meter hurdles, and 300 hurdles. Other state qualifiers for the Mullen Lady Broncos included : Haley Jones (800) and Molly Paxton (1600 and 3200). Mullen’s 4×400 relay team (Haley Jones, Brooke McCulley, Hanna Marshall, and Alysen Daniels) and 4×800 relay team (Haley Jones, Brooke McCulley, Kylie Licking, and Molly Paxton) also qualified. The Sandhills/Thedford Lady Knights will be represented at the state track meet by Johannah Christie (girls high jump), Brayden Rhoades (triple jump), and Carlie Collier (100 and 200). S/T’s 4×100 relay team (Johannah Christie, Carlie Collier, Marlee Taylor, and Brayden Rhoades) also qualified for state.

Mullen also won the D-8 boys team title with 93 points. Wauneta Palisade was 2nd with 89 points, Paxton was 3rd with 73 points, and Sandhills/Thedford finished 4th with 69 points. Qualifying for state for Mullen were Lane Edis (high jump, long jump, and 100), Tell Spies (Shot Put and Discus), and Luke Christen (800 and 1600). Sandhills/Thedford qualified two athletes for the state track meet next week. Nolan Marten qualified in the 100, 200, and 400. Gage Haake qualified in the 110 hurdles and the 300 meter hurdles).
