86-year-old Auburn man passes away after vehicle is struck by train

AUBURN - An 86-year-old Auburn man was pronounced dead at the scene of a train vs. vehicle accident on the east edge of Auburn on Tuesday morning. Donald Kruger was driving a 1999 Ford Ranger eastbound on Hwy. 136 when it was struck by a northbound Union Pacific train at a railroad crossing at 8:46 a.m. There were no other occupants in the pickup. Crew members on the train did not sustain any injuries. Auburn Fire and Rescue responded to the scene. The crash is under investigation by the Nemaha County Sheriff's Office and Union Pacific Railroad.
