Broken Bow Library Grand Opening this Saturday

BROKEN BOW—After years of fundraising and planning, and months of construction, relocation, and obstacles, the Broken Bow Public Library is now ready to celebrate its long-awaited Grand Opening.

The public is invited to attend the Grand Opening and open house this Saturday, January 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The dedication and ribbon cutting will take place at 10 a.m.

Library Director Joan Birnie expressed her appreciation during Tuesday’s City Council meeting for all of the work done by city crews. Crews worked to move books and shelves back and forth to the temporary location.

“It’s fabulous, we are beyond pleased. I would like to say thank you to all the city crews that helped,” Birnie said.

In addition, the working hands of numerous volunteers made the transition possible.

“We had wonderful volunteers from the public. I can’t imagine the hours, anywhere were from 40 to 55 volunteers– people that would drop in, people that helped carry books, helped us get books back on the shelf, people that have done whatever we’ve asked them to do. Some people put in a 40-hour week for us and it’s an amazing show of volunteerism so we are very appreciative of all the community support,” Birnie said.

The expanded and newly renovated library is located at 626 South D Street. Everyone, young and old, is invited to celebrate the next chapter with an open house, tours, and refreshments.

City Administrator Brent Clark encourages families to bring children and grandchildren to help cut the ribbon at 10 a.m.

“The whole project is for the youth, it’s for the kids. It’s their library and to grow up with that type of facility they have now is just incredible,” Clark said.
