Columbus Man Accused of Shooting at Gun at House, Given Prison for Gun and DUI Charges

COLUMBUS, Neb. - A Columbus man, accused of shooting an illegally owned gun at a house, was given several years in prison for gun and DUI convictions Friday. 62-year-old James Chollar was given 3-4 years in prison for owning a gun as a felon and one year for the DUI in Platte County District court. Judge Robert Steinke said Chollar  will serve the sentences at the same time. Records say Chollar fired a gun near 26th Ave and 8th St. in Columbus in August of last year. Police soon pulled him over and found a .22 caliber revolver with 8 spent shells and 1 full round in the gun, on the passenger seat of Chollar's pickup. Chollar tested positive for .170 blood alcohol content and was arrested for 2nd offense DUI. The weapon charge carried a mandatory minimum of three years in prison. He is credited with 108 days already served.
