Doug was born December 31, 1960, in Lexington, Nebraska, to Norman Dale and Glenda (Carlson) Hough.  He graduated from SEM high school in 1979.  His nickname was “Trapper” in school.  He was married to Pam Hrasky in 1992 and one son, Dillan, was born to this marriage.  The couple later divorced.

Doug lived every moment of his life to the fullest, always saying that he was as good as God would have him, regardless of his circumstances. He loved to hunt, trap for fur, fish, and train horses and dogs. He was deeply invested in the lives of his children, nieces, and nephews, and later his grandchildren and great-nieces and nephews, attending their activities and encouraging their passions. At gatherings, if Doug was missing, you could usually find him with the kids, who were always drawn to his patience and his quiet way of imparting information.

He was a member of the United Church of Sumner and mentored many people in their faith through his quiet example. Doug also coached Little League baseball teams and always made those around him better with his presence. He was diagnosed with ALS Lou Gehrig’s Disease in 2012 and continued to be an example and encouragement to others as he battled. He was the 4th generation to help with the family farming and ranching operation, which he was involved with until his disease forced him to stop.

Doug is survived by his sons, Dillan Hough of Ravenna, Nebraska, Shane (Rachel) Hrasky of Eddyville, Nebraska, and David (Deidra) Hrasky of Hazard, Nebraska; his parents, Dale & Glenda of Eddyville, Nebraska; three sisters, Beth (R.P.) Smith of Broken Bow, Nebraska, Ann (Doug) Eggleston of Sumner, Nebraska, and Jayne (Dave) Eggleston of Cozad, Nebraska; five grandchildren, Lily, Bo, Ty, Cade & Cooper Hrasky; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and many, many friends.  A special person to Doug was his caregiver for the past several years, Sara Dodd, and her children, Alexis, Bailey, Cassie, and Wyatt Dodd from Eddyville, Nebraska.

Doug was preceded in death by his grandparents, Carl and Lucy Hough and Edwin and Edna Carlson.
