HASTINGS – The Hastings St. Cecilia girls came out on the winning side of a thrilling season-opener.
The No. 5 Hawekttes led 9th-ranked Scotus by 10 in the third quarter but the Shamrocks came storming back late to take a 42-41 lead with less than 30 seconds to play. With St. Cecilia shooting a 1-and-1 Lexi Vertin grabbed the rebound and made the go-ahead basket with under twenty seconds. Scotus was able to get off a last-second three but it would missed the mark.
St. Cecilia next travels to Bishop Neumann on Saturday while Scotus will host GACC on December 5th.
