BEATRICE - The Nebraska Emergency Management Agency and local emergency managers across the state are encouraging people to be prepared as we enter the winter season. Thursday is Severe Winter Awareness Day, and local officials are urging residents to be ready when winter weather develops in the area.
Emergency Management Director for Jefferson and Saline Counties, John McKee suggests individuals and families have a disaster kit in their home that consists of food, water, blankets, first aid kit, flashlight and other items needed during a winter storm….

Emergency officials also recommend a disaster kit for your vehicle as traveling can be dangerous in the winter months. McKee says during winter storms, help may not be immediately available if an accident occurs on the road or highway….
