Janice L Loghry, 79, of Callaway, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Callaway District Hospital, with her family by her side.
She was born March 8, 1947, in Callaway, Nebraska, the only child of Bernard and Harriet (Maze) Kolbo. She attended Callaway Public Schools and was a member of the Class of 1965. Janice was united in marriage to Thomas Hiatt, and together they were blessed with five children: Mitzi, Dawn, Connie, Tom, and Tim.
The family moved to Omaha, NE in 1970. Janice had a deep love for her community and was actively involved in many activities, including teaching Bluebirds, a precursor to Camp Fire Girls. She enjoyed organizing creative projects, often crafting tunnels and bridges for Thomas's train set using mod podge. Family adventures were important to her, and she frequently packed up her children-and often neighborhood kids too-for weekend trips to DeSoto Bend.
Later, after moving to Geneva, Janice became a proud business owner, operating Daylight Donuts and later the Anchor Bar & Grill for several years. Upon returning to her hometown of Callaway with the love of her life, Gary "Kumbo" Kumm, she concluded her working career at the Callaway Good Life Center. There, she was known for delighting residents with her homemade desserts, always living by her motto: "Eat dessert first."
In her free time, Janice treasured moments with family and friends. She especially enjoyed visits from Shane, who would stop by to take Spencer for his daily run and stay to chat about the day's events. Janice was skilled with her hands and loved sewing, knitting, crocheting, and crafting, as well as creating unique and delicious treats. She loved gardening and loved teaching others how to preserve fresh food by canning, blanching and freezing, as well as fermentation techniques. She also enjoyed riding her Harley and deer hunting, where she took pride in processing the meat and making homemade sausage and jerky. An exceptional cook, she regularly contributed to bake sales supporting American Legion scholarships, helped her grandchildren raise money for various causes, and spent time watching cooking shows with Kumbo in search of new recipes.
She is survived by her children: Mitzi (Ron) Graham, Dawn (Tim Hogg) Hiatt, Connie Ekeler, Tom (Angela) Hiatt, and Tim Hiatt; her grandchildren: Sandra, Chelsey, Bud, Leann, John, Matt, Nicole, Zach, Haley, Sidney, Riley, and Noah; twelve great-grandchildren; as well as extended family and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 20, 2026, at the Christian Church in Ansley, with Rev. Mel Shepard officiating. Burial will follow at Westerville Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Ansley Christian Church. A lunch reception will be held at the Ansley Community Building following the burial. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 19th from 1:00 to 6:00 PM, with family greeting 3:00 to 5:00 PM at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Mary Alyce was born October 22, 1934, in Arcadia, Nebraska, to Melvin and Ann Marie (Nyberg) Moore. She grew up near Westerville and attended a country grade school. She later attended Ansley High School through the 11th grade and graduated from Corvallis High School in Oregon in 1952.
On February 26, 1953, she married Theodore “Ted” Wayne Vose at the Methodist Church in Westerville, Nebraska. Following their wedding, the couple returned to California while Ted completed his service in the U.S. Navy. After his discharge in 1955, they returned to Nebraska, where they ranched in the Sandhills until 1961. They then moved east of Westerville to take over the family farm.
In January 1969, the family moved to Lincoln so Ted could attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. During this time, Mary worked a variety of jobs to help support her family, including babysitting, ironing, working in a school kitchen, and serving as a nursing assistant. In May 1973, they returned to Westerville, where she continued working as a nursing assistant until her retirement.
Mary found joy in simple pleasures-tending to her flower garden, mowing the lawn, and caring for her animals. In May 2013, she moved to Prairie View
Gardens Assisted Living in Kearney. After suffering a stroke in March 2018, she became a resident of St. John's Nursing Home, where she remained until her passing.
Mary was a quiet, gentle, and deeply loving person. She cherished time outdoors and was known as a wonderful cook, especially remembered for spoiling her grandchildren with their favorite meals. She offered a kind word, a warm smile, and a tender hug that could make everything better. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her children: Mickie (Vic) Florea of Stapleton; Sandra (Howard) Dondlinger of Kearney; and Sid (Cyndi) Vose of Arcadia; and sons-in-law Ron Ruzicka and Dean Slingsby. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Angela (Kenny) Kramer; Dale (Kami) Florea; Cassie (Matt) Gay; Michael Dondlinger; Amanda (Casey) Gehrt; Jennifer (Aaron) Harris; Riley (Kelsey) Ruzicka; Jessie (Chris) Watts; Ashley (Josh) Vaughn; Darcey (Selvin) Mendez; Taylor Slingsby; Natosha (Andy) Siemek; Tylor (Jaime) Vose; and Seth (Kassie) Vose. Her legacy continues through her many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, as well as her sisters Marlyn Arthur and Marge Kitsmiller, and sister-in-law Shirley Moore.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted; daughters Patti Ruzicka and Mary Jo Slingsby; grandson Travis Slingsby; brothers Jim Moore and Richard Moore; sister-in-law Joyce Moore; and brothers-in-law Mick Kitsmiller and Francis Arthur.

Gene French was born November 20, 1932, at Mullen, NE to Gerald Cooper and Esther Parnell (Wiggins) French. He grew up on a ranch south of Mullen and graduated from Mullen High School where he participated in all sports and went to state in track. After high school Gene attended the University of Nebraska Lincoln where he enrolled in the Airforce ROTC program. Gene participated in Pershing rifles, Rodeo club, intramural basketball, Agronomy club, and Ag Men's club. Gene graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture in 1955. While in college Gene met Wilma Larson and they were married on August 29, 1954. Gene went to Lackland Airforce Base then Bartow, FL, Waco, TX, Vance OK, Randolf TX, then helicopter training in California, and overseas to the Einiwetok Islands off the coast of Japan. After Gene returned from overseas in July of 1958, the couple moved to a ranch they had just bought east of Broken Bow. Gene was well known for his purebred Charolais Cattle with the pinnacle of his career being his annual bull sale. He was very meticulous in choosing the best genetics to get the perfect combination of low birth weight, good disposition, and excellent gain-ability. Gene never really retired, but the couple eventually moved into Broken Bow. He continued to go to the ranch daily living his passion of caring for the land, fixing fence, improving water, and taking care of weeds. He did many conservation and grazing practices to improve it.
Gene and Wilma loved any excuse to get family together; hosting holiday dinners, bonfires, and extended family reunions, where on one occasion Gene initiated a water fight!
Gene was a member of the E-Free Church and was very active in many of the ministry programs, particularly the youth (AWANA). He enjoyed helping with services at Sandhills Manor and went on several mission trips to Mexico.
He leaves behind his three children- Karen (Mark) Minne, Lynn (Laurie), and Carl (Toni), eight grandchildren- Sheena (Lowell), Nikki (Derrick), Leah (Luke), Levi, Spencer, Jamie (Brennen), Austin (Brooke), Justin (Jory), and 16 great-grandchildren- Madden, Cash, Rawlins, Rowan, Grant, Garrett, Declan, Isla Ree, Rhyannon, Moxon, Raygan, Brigston, Bexley, Renn, Brynn, Hattie. He is also survived by his sister Alice Urbach of Denton NE.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Wilma in 2023, and his brother Roger.

Glenn Arthur Clark was born on September 17, 1946, at Benkelman, NE to Ralph and Lucille (Brown) Clark. Glenn grew up in Benkelman and later graduated from high school in 1964.
A proud veteran, Glenn served in the US Navy, January 29, 1965- January 27, 1969. Glenn was part of the first crew to serve on the USS Tripoli as a radio mechanic. Glenn served two tours in Vietnam and was awarded with many honors. His time in the service was marked by a commitment to excellence and duty, characteristics that he carried into his civilian life.
Following his military service Glenn went to college at Chadron State and graduated in 1973. He then enrolled in the University of Nebraska College of Law and graduated in 1976, with a Juris of Doctorate Degree. He then embarked on a distinguished law career, initially working under John Neff in Lexington, Nebraska. Glenn's passion for justice and community service led him to serve as County Attorney for Dawson, Phelps, Custer, Valley, Logan, and Blaine counties, a role he fulfilled with dedication until his passing.
Beyond his professional life, Glenn was a consummate tinkerer and an ever-ready handyman for his family and friends. His garage was his sanctuary, filled with ongoing projects and the pervasive scent of motor oil. When not immersed in his mechanical pursuits, Glenn could be found meticulously tending to his lawn, ensuring every blade of grass was perfectly in place.
Glenn is survived by his loving wife, Carol Clark, daughters, Christine (Mark) Dowse, and Cara Jones, son Tyler Clark, grandchildren, Madison Powell, Josie Dowse, Gabriella Powell, Jacob Dowse, Katie Dowse, and Jack Jones. He is also survived by his sister, Betty Wilkens, brothers, Bob (Judy) Clark, and Gary (Gail) Clark, sisters in-law, Marilyn Clark, Carla (Pat) Mahar, Candice (Dr. Mike) Owens, and numerous, nieces, nephews, and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Friday April 17, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell, NE with Pastor Kathy Salts officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the US Navy.
A visitation and time to greet the family will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2026, 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. Words of encouragement and remembrance can be left at govierbrothers.com.
