At 74 years old, Jim's life was a testament to kindness, strength, and unwavering love. Once of Sargent Nebraska, he touched everyone he met with his genuine spirit and boundless generosity.
The funeral services will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026, 10:30am, at the Sargent Community Center. Following the service, Jim will be laid to rest at Mount Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, we kindly suggest memorials to the Sargent Fire Department and the Windmills Links Golf Course. Visitation will take place on Thursday, May 21, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow, Nebraska. Arrangements are entrusted to Govier Brothers Mortuary. Online condolences can be shared at govierbrothers.com
Jimmy Doyle Ash was born on October 12, 1951, in Broken Bow, Nebraska, to Raymond and Mabel (Dye) Ash. From his earliest days, his heart was generous, and his smile could light up any room. A proud graduate of Sargent High School in 1970, Jim's journey led him to Denver, Colorado, and Lincoln, Nebraska, where he earned an associate degree in Drafting Technology.
In 1972, Jim joined the Nebraska Army National Guard, dedicating six years of his life to protecting and supporting others. On April 21, 1973, he married the love of his life, Roberta "Gay" Brass, a union that blessed them with three beautiful, wonderful and loving daughters: Jacki Rae, Jayme Lynn, and Jillian Jo.

Jim's pride in his community shone brightly through his service with the Sargent Fire Department. He took profound joy in placing flags at Mount Hope Cemetery alongside members of the American Legion. He found joy on the golf course, in games of cards, along quiet country roads, and in the proud moments spent pheasant hunting with his beloved Labradors. His craftsmanship was unmatched. His skilled hands and generous heart brought happiness and comfort to many through his work in homes and businesses.

Known occasionally as "Bob the Builder," Jim's infectious humor and mischievous spirit lit up every gathering. He never met a stranger-his stories, jokes, and pranks brought laughter and warmth wherever he went. His ornery charm was a true reflection of his lively soul.

Jim's legacy lives on through his daughters-Jacki and Chris Beran of Sargent, Nebraska, Jayme and Nathan Hawk of Cody, Wyoming, and Jillian and Brandon Ingraham of Windsor, Colorado-and his beloved grandchildren: Rileigh, Mace, Brennan, Hayes Beran; Harper and Hudson Hawk; and Claire and Harrison Ingraham. He also leaves behind his sister, Bev
and Dwaine Johnson of Kearney, Nebraska, and special nephew Bruce and Cindy Ash of Arcadia.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Mabel, his wife Gay, and siblings Opal Kuh, Dean Ash, Don Ash, and Duane Ash.

Our hearts are heavy, but we find comfort in knowing that Jim's spirit will forever remain in our memories-his laughter, his kindness, his unbreakable love. We extend our deepest gratitude to the staff at Community Memorial Health Center for the compassionate care they provided during his final days.

Constance Joyce Pearson was born on June 29, 1950, at Broken Bow to Clifford "Bud" and Joyce (Thieman) Lomax. Connie graduated from Broken Bow High School and attended Kearney State College.
On September 20, 1969, Connie married Bill Pearson Jr. Connie's three loving children were born to this marriage. What started as part time work while the kids were in school turned into almost 50 years of working at Chapin's Decorating, where she became known for her exceptional eye for decorating. Her influence reached far and wide, as the homes, businesses, and individuals she touched reflected the care and artistic talent she put into every project. She could be seen early in the morning and late into the evening mixing paint to achieve that perfect color for her customers. Connie's passion for helping people realize their dreams was the driving force in her career, and she remained committed to this work until the very end. Connie's home was beautifully decorated to match her unique tastes and was one of her many proud accomplishments.
Connie had the softest of heart. She loved people, animals, and all living things, she approached life with kindness and warmth. Yet it was her family that held her greatest passion. She was always supporting her children and grandchildren, she traveled to attend rodeos, speech meets, golf tournaments, and cattle shows. Nothing could deter her from being there to cheer them on.
Connie is survived by her son Wade and wife Michelle Pearson of Oconto, daughter Laurie and husband Randon Peters of McCook, and son Chris Pearson and his significant other Stacey Richardson of Broken Bow. Connie's pride and joy extended to her grandchildren; Seth and wife Tristan Pearson, Hannah Pearson, Ryland Peters, Laney Peters, Emma Pearson and Gracie Pearson; as well as her great grandson, the light of her life Michael Pearson.
Ray Seaton Taylor, age 87, of Broken Bow, Nebraska went to be with his Lord and savior May 6, 2026, just 7 hours before his 88th birthday. I'm sure you're reading this and thinking "the math ain't mathin". For the first 65 years of Ray's life, he celebrated his birthday on May 7th. When he turned 65 and qualified for Medicare/Social Security, everything was denied. We eventually discovered that his birth certificate read "May 9", so going forward that's the date we went with. The amusing part was, birthdays were always an extremely big deal to Dad. We had a lot of fun with "they really did take your birthday away", "now I suppose we have to celebrate both days", etc. Either way, dad was always told that he was born during a really bad blizzard. The conditions were so bad that the only way they could get dad's mom from Comstock to Loup City to deliver, was via a handcar on the railroad tracks. Several men from Comstock worked together to pull this task off.
Ray was born to Seaton Ray and Elsie M. (Atkins) Taylor. Ray attended school in Comstock, Nebraska. Ray loved and excelled in sports, playing football, basketball, and track all four years of high school. Ray graduated from Comstock High School in 1957. After high school Ray worked for numerous farmers, ranchers, and businessmen around the Comstock area.
August 7, 1967, Ray was united in marriage to Judy Haumont. The newlyweds moved to North Platte, Nebraska where they worked on area ranches until 1973. While in North Platte, the couple was blessed with a newborn baby, James Ray in 1971. Also, during this time a life-long and treasured friendship was made with Kyle and Sandy McQueen of North Platte.
In 1973, Ray and Judy moved back to the family farm. In 1985 Ray and Judy had a son Jess Riley and completed their family with a baby girl JennaRae Lucille in 1987. Ray worked for his father-in-law Art Haumont from 1973 until Art passed away in 1991. After Art's passing, Ray and Judy continued to operate the family farm and grow their cow numbers. Their cow herd was built from one Brown Swiss Milk cow that was given to them by Judy's parents as a wedding gift. To provide additional off-farm income, Ray worked 13 years as a certified nurses aid at Heritage and Independence Hall Nursing Home. Ray then cleaned the Custer County Court House for several years until finally "retiring" and helping his son Jess farm and ranch until he was well into his 80's.
Outside the farm, Ray's hobbies were fairly limited. Once he slowed down from helping on the farm, he loved to read. And boy did he read! Westerns were his preference, but really no book was safe! And rereading a book several times wasn't off limits either. I believe at last count, he'd gotten through the Bible seven times. In the fall, if the Nebraska Cornhuskers were playing football, Ray was guaranteed to be either watching the game on TV or listening to it on the radio. I'm not sure a game was ever played that he had at least one "Ohhhh! They just ain't got it!" wasn't shouted out! One of Ray's favorite days of the year was the 4th of July, and attending the annual Comstock 4th of July Parade and festivities. He loved catching up with Pirate alumni and friends. Ray was a quiet and reserved guy, but if you were to catch him one on one and he could sure talk. Many friends and neighbors commented over the years that "you could talk to Judy or Jess for hours and not find out much. But after 10 minutes of talking to Ray, you found out EVERYTHING!" Especially in his later years, Ray certainly enjoyed visiting with friends and family on the phone.
Ray is survived by children: James (Janelle) Taylor of McCook, Jess (Elise) Taylor of Broken Bow, and JennaRae Taylor of Edmond, Oklahoma. Grandchildren: Kasey, Kaleb, Katie, Colton, Travyn, Cadence, and Brooklyn and many other family and friends.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, wife (Judy), and sister (Verla Dean Schufeldt)
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at 10:30 AM at the Broken Bow Berean Church. Burial will follow in the Broken Bow Cemetery. A visitation and time to greet the family will be held on Tuesday, May 19th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Govier Brothers Mortuary. 2026, at the Kearney regional Medical Center in Kearney.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at 3:00 PM at the Church of

Deb was born April 29,1954, in Broken Bow, NE to Max and Donna (Brown) Mattox. She attended Rose Valley School and graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1972. Deb graduated with her degree from Mid-America Nazarene University in Olathe, KS.
Deb was a hardworking, dedicated woman. She worked for 20 years for Central Nebraska Electric Co. in Ansley, NE. Before that she worked for 20 years for Custer County Chief in Broken Bow, NE. At home on the farm, she was always willing to help wherever she could. She was strong in her faith, and served many positions at her current church, Broken Bow Church of God. She also played piano and sang in the church choir throughout the years.
Deb was a quiet, fun-loving lady. She loved her family and friends so much. She would do anything for any of them. She wanted to spend as much time with them as she could. So, she would adapt to whatever they were into. Just a few examples are riding four wheelers, sledding, roller coasters, sports of any kind, movies, WWE, and haunted woods. It tickled her that they fought over their "Aunt Debbie".
Deb loved all animals except mice. Cats were her favorite and she had many of them. She could never resist a stray. She enjoyed traveling, shopping (especially Black Friday), gardening flowers, and pulling pranks. A few examples are multiple layer gift wrapping and gifts of $1 million dollars (fake money). She was very competitive, especially playing cards or board games with family. Deb loved her three brothers very much but held her own with them. She was never afraid to try to assemble things on her own. She was a very independent strong woman.
Deb is survived by brothers David (Stacey) of Broken Bow, NE and Phillip (Dana) Mattox of Lubbock, TX. Nieces and nephews Jessica Anderson of Levelland, TX, Michael (Kelli) Mattox of Benton, AR, Nicole (Tommie) Sims of Ackerly, TX, Bryan (Alicia) Mattox of Wynne, AR, Samson (JoAnn) Mattox of Lubbock, TX, Justin (Jami) Mattox of Broken Bow, NE and Mandi Mattox of Broken Bow, NE. Plus, many great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. Several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Deb was preceded in death by her parents, Max and Donna, brother Russ and infant sister Gaylene. Her grandparents Bunt and Virgina Mattox and Bob and Evelyn Brown.

Michael Earl Crawford, known fondly as Mike, was born May 3, 1938, near Omaha, Nebraska. He passed away May 8, 2026, at his home in Broken Bow, Nebraska.

Mike was raised in Curtis, Nebraska, by his loving parents, James and Ethel Crawford. He attended the University of Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis through his junior year of high school. From there, he attended Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina, a university best known for its Evangelical Christian values. After a year at Bob Jones, Mike returned to Curtis to complete his senior year before entering the United States Air Force. His family upbringing and time at Bob Jones set the tone for his role as a chaplain in the Air Force and also the rest of his life. Mike went to Parks Air Force Base in California for basic training. During this time, he was appointed “first organist” for chapel and also played in the airmen's choir. After graduating basic training, Mike would be stationed at RAF Lakenheath in England for the duration of his military service.

Upon completing his service, Mike returned to Curtis, where he wore many hats over the next few years. He owned and operated his own carpentry business, as well as a café and the local newspaper.

Mike would go on to become a drug and alcohol counselor at the Norton Correctional Facility in Norton, Kansas. This was a position he was very proud of, as Mike himself went on to celebrate 44 years of sobriety.

Mike joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Over the years, he served many roles with the church, from pianist to various leadership positions.

Mike continued serving the community as a caretaker for Mid-Nebraska, both in North Platte and Broken Bow. He later worked as a night supervisor at Jack & Jill in Broken Bow and is fondly remembered by many for carrying groceries to people's cars.

Mike married Becky (Arnold) Waudby on July 20, 2001, in Broken Bow, Nebraska, where they resided until his passing.

Mike had a love for the outdoors. Camping with Becky in the hearse was a reflection of their unique spirit and sense of humor. At home, his yard, flowers and properly displaying the United States flag were of the utmost importance. He had a bird feeder outside his window and enjoyed yelling at the "tree rats" - aka squirrels. Mike enjoyed woodworking, model cars, Legos, and creating folk art for his family and friends. Mike had a lifelong love and talent for music, playing multiple instruments, often playing at church services and memorials. Most of all, he loved spending time with family and friends.

Mike is survived by his wife, Becky Crawford; his children, Dale Crawford (Cynthe),Shaun Crawford (Stephanie), Brooke Daake (Doug), Michael D. Crawford, Kenny Crawford (Melissa) Eve Conner, Theresa Dubbs (Matt), Chris Waudby (Kate) and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mike requested that those attending the service wear bright, colorful clothing. Memorials are suggested to the family.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 1108 South 1st Avenue Broken Bow, NE. Burial will be at 2:00 PM at the Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, NE with Military Honors. Memorials are suggested to the Family. A visitation and time to greet the family will be held on Tuesday, May 12th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
