LEXINGTON—This Saturday is a chance to explore and appreciate the pioneer spirit that helped shape a central Nebraska community. The Lexington Area Chamber of Commerce and the Dawson County Museum have partnered to host the Vintage View of Lexington this Saturday, August 3.

“This is kind of a brand new event that we are partnering with the chamber and the Dawson County Historical Museum for the first time and we are really, really excited about it. We hope we get a good crowd of people there,” said Sarah Neben, Executive Director of the Lexington Area Chamber of Commerce.

The day will begin at 10 a.m. with a gathering at Madeline’s Café and Bakery (501 N. Washington), which is itself a historic building, where event attendees will have the chance to enjoy coffee and pastries.

A walking tour of historic downtown Lexington will take place from 10:15 to 11:30 a.m. followed by a tour of two historic Lexington homes from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

Included in the $15 ticket price is lunch at Mac’s Creek Winery and Brewery at 1 p.m. Tickets are available at the Dawson County Museum (308-324-5340) and the Lexington Area Chamber of Commerce (308-324-5504).

Tickets can also be purchased on Saturday morning at Madeline’s Café and Bakery but calling ahead for tickets is preferable. Sarah Neben said people can park in the city parking lot to the south of the café and gather before the walking tour begins to view the downtown architecture and courthouse. Following the walk, event attendees can go back to their vehicles to drive to the historic homes.

“I think we have so many buildings downtown here in Lexington that have really stood the test of time; they were built to last and we want to, you know, really have people respect those older buildings and the fact if we lose a lot of those buildings then it’s really impossible to replace them,” Neben said. “We just want people to see and appreciate the time and the care that went into those buildings but also the pioneer spirit that really helped to build those.”
