Public Hearing To Be Held Concerning Grievances Filed Against Broken Bow Mayor

BROKEN BOW— According to City Clerk Stephanie Wright, a special public hearing will be held on Wednesday, June 5 at 7 PM at the Broken Bow Municipal Building concerning the grievances filed by Broken Bow Police Officers Ben Tucker and David Taylor against Broken Bow Mayor Jonathon Berghorst.

While the public is allowed to attend the hearing, NO PUBLIC INPUT WILL BE ALLOWED. If you are unable to attend the hearing, KCNI/KBBN will be broadcasting the hearing live on our Facebook page: sandhillsexpress.com.

The two letters of grievance were first filed on April 11 by Broken Bow Police Officers David Taylor and Ben Tucker. Each letter detailed the events that took place during an investigation of an alleged assault in Broken Bow. Both officers describe the conduct of the Mayor as it appears he attempted to “silence a criminal investigation.” Police Chief Steve Scott also filed a letter of concern relating to the conduct of Mayor Berghorst during the investigation.

Letters obtained through public records requests show that attorney Christopher Wickham, who represents Mayor Berghorst, has stated that in order for there to be a grievance there must be a “discipline, suspension, demotion, removal, or discharge” of the officers. According to Wickham, no “discipline, suspension, demotion, removal, or discharge”  has taken place, which is why he believes the “grievances should be summarily dismissed.
