Norfolk man publishes financial help book

NORFOLK – A Norfolk-based financial adviser has published a book aimed at helping young people make wise and informed choices with their finances.

Adam Olson said his book “21 Things You Need To Know About Money” gives people an understanding of basic financial concepts that are used in making big decisions such as buying a house or car. While the target demographic for his book is 18-30-year-olds, Olson said the concepts in his book would be good for anyone to know.

“I think no matter where you live or really what stage of life you’re in, the information inside the book can be helpful,” Olson said.

With eight years as a financial adviser under his belt, Olson said he drew from his experiences to help him write his book.

“I took [my client’s] mistakes and my mistakes and said, ‘Hey, don’t make these mistakes. These are the rules you need to follow,'” Olson said.

Olson said the one thing he hopes people take away from his book is knowing what questions to ask while making those big decisions.

“A lot of times when people are looking at either going to college or buying a car or getting a house, it’s the first time they’ve done it,” Olson said. “They just kind of jump in and say ‘Oh, you know, whoever I’m talking to is saying this is the right thing to do,’ so they just jump in. Really they should be asking multiple questions on what’s right for them.”

Olson said he wants to teach financial literacy classes to build off what his book teaches. His book is available for purchase at www.21thingsmoney.com.
