Husker linebacker Guy Thomas will transfer from Nebraska, an NU spokesman confirmed to The World-Herald on Thursday.

Thomas played in four games this season as a redshirt freshman. He recorded four tackles, with a season-high three coming against FCS foe Bethune-Cookman.

Thomas said he hasn’t decided where he’s transferring.

“It’s not working out,” Thomas said via message when asked why he was transferring.

The Miami product committed to the Huskers on signing day two years ago over Pittsburgh and Louisville. As Nebraska transitioned to a 3-4 defense, Thomas was was lauded as someone who could quickly help rush the passer as an outside linebacker.

But even with injuries and opportunity in his favor, the 6-foot-3, 230-pound Thomas saw the field sparingly. Luke Gifford, Tyrin Ferguson, Alex Davis and JoJo Domann settled in ahead of Thomas on the depth chart.

The departure means all four 2017 linebacker signees — Andrew Ward, Avery Roberts, Willie Hampton and Thomas — have left the program.

Nebraska coaches continue to recruit outside linebackers hard as the Dec. 19 early signing period draws closer. Current 2019 commit Garrett Nelson (Scottsbluff) is set to play the position. Other outside linebackers on the roster include juniors Quayshon Alexander and Pernell Jefferson, sophomores Breon Dixon and Caleb Tannor, and redshirt freshman David Alston.
