Scouting Kansas State: A series win at No. 14 Texas last weekend gives KSU (16-21) some momentum entering the midweek tilt. But middling statistics support its record, which has hovered around .500 all spring: scoring (4.7 runs per game, 249th), earned-run average (5.47, 199th) and fielding percentage (.968, 128th). … Littlejim is also an infielder when he doesn’t pitch. The 6-foot-3, 175-pounder has struck out 14 and walked nine in 18⅓ innings this season, including one start. … Zach Kokoska (.333 average, five homers), Will Brennan (.297, eight steals) and Chris Ceballos (.279, five homers, 25 RBIs) are the team’s biggest offensive threats.

Dugout chatter: Nebraska won the first meeting of former Big 12 rivals this year when freshmen Perry, Bo Blessie and Tyler Martin combined on a four-hit shutout in Manhattan. … Nebraska, which holds a 1½-game lead over Indiana for first place in the Big Ten, holds an RPI of 37.
