Broken Bow Legion Juniors and Seniors Sweep Holdrege in Season Opener

The Broken Bow American Legion Juniors and Seniors baseball teams each picked up a win Friday night in their season opener at Holdrege.

The Bow Seniors rolled to a 12-2 win.  Bow scored 4 runs in the 2nd inning to take control and then added 5 more in the fifth inning to essentially close out the game.  Clay Brandon was 2 for 3 on the night with 3 runs scored.  Coy Johnson was also one of the heroes at the plate going 2 for 3 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored.  Sawyer Bumgarner was the top RBI man on the night driving in 4 runs on 2 hits.  Blake Denson started the game on the mound going 3 innings and allowing 2 runs on 3 hits.  Coy Johnson and Clay Brandon came on in relief to help close out the game.

The Bow Juniors almost let their opener get away from them but held on to win in extra innings.  Broken Bow appeared to have the game in hand leading 8-2 entering the bottom of the 7th inning but Holdrege would score 6 runs to tie the game and send it to an extra inning.  In the 8th, Broken Bow would score 2 runs in the top of the inning and then held Holdrege scoreless in their final at bat to pick up a 10-8 win.  Sawyer Bumgarner picked up the win in relief.  Max Denson, Caden Holm, Wyatt Woodward, and Keifer Anderson each drove in 2 runs to lead the Bow offense.

Both teams are back in action today as they host Alma at Paul Brown Field for their home opener.  The seniors game will be broadcast live on KBBN 95.3 FM and will be streamed live on the sandhills express facebook page.  The seniors game is scheduled for 1pm with the juniors game to follow.
