Area Athletes Shine at State Track Championships

The 2019 NSAA State Track and Field championships were held Friday and Saturday at Burke Stadium in Omaha. The Mullen Lady Broncos finished third in the Class D girls team standings. Giltner was the girls team champion with 54 points followed by Sterling in second with 39 points and Mullen was third with 35. Molly Paxton helped lead the way as the Mullen junior claimed gold in the 3200 meters and a silver in the 1600 meter run. Samantha Moore of Mullen took silver in the girls 100 meter hurdles.

In Class B, Megan Burkholder was the state champion in the girls pole vault clearing 11’3″ and Tyce Hruza of Gothenburg claimed gold in the boys pole vault by setting a new Class B state meet record clearing 16’2″.

Several area athletes claimed silver medals during the tournament. In Class D, Carli Bailey of Ansley/Litchfield finished as the runner-up in both the girls 400 and 300 meter hurdles. Carlie Collier of Sandhills/Thedford was the silver medalist in the girls 200, Lane Edis of Mullen was second in the boys long jump, and Carson Rohde of SEM placed second in the boys discus. Kalen Dockweiler claimed the silver in the Class C boys 1600 and Hannah Anderson of Gothenburg was second in the girls 800 meter run.

The Broken Bow track team collected two medals during the tournament. Matt Ambler tied for fifth in the Class B boys pole vault and Lindsay Schauda claimed the 8th place medal in the girls 300 meter hurdles.
