West Nile confirmed in the Panhandle

A Panhandle mosquito trap site has recently collected mosquitoes positive with the West Nile virus.

These are the first confirmed positive mosquitoes in Nebraska.

Multiple locations across Nebraska are routinely monitoring sites to trap and test mosquitoes over the summer months.

At this time, there have been no human cases of West Nile detected.

Health officials say the best way to prevent the virus is to avoid mosquito bites...use insect repellent with DEET...avoid activities at dawn and dusk...and remove any standing water from your property.
