KIMBALL - Road conditions in central Nebraska and in the panhandle have begun to deteriorate due to a strong winter storm pushing through the state Saturday night. All highways in the panhandle were either partially covered of fully covered in snow, ice and slush at 9 p.m. mountain time. Blowing snow was also a concern. The Nebraska State Patrol reported blizzard conditions while attending a rollover accident near Mitchell. There were no closures on Interstate 80 in Nebraska early Saturday night. However, the interstate is completely covered in snow and blowing snow from Ogallala to the Wyoming border. It's partially covered from Ogallala to Cozad. I-80 from Cheyenne to Rawlins, Wyo. was closed at shortly before 10 p.m. mountain time due to winter conditions. I-80 is included in a blizzard warning from Kearney to Lincoln Sunday. The National Weather Service issued a "snow squall warning" for Kimball Saturday night - which included I-80 - warning drivers of extremely poor visibility due to snow and blowing snow. They advised travelers to find the nearest exit or rest area to park safely away from traffic and wait until the squall passes before attempting to resume travel. "Significant" blowing and drifting snow will reduce visibility to near zero at times Saturday night into Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. Traveling will be dangerous to impossible at times. The Nebraska Department of Roads were utilizing electronic signs throughout the state to warn drivers about the impending blizzard conditions. Snowfall totals in the state will range between 3-7 inches.
