PROGRAM ALERT

Warm weather arrives in time for tanking race this weekend

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) – Temperatures this coming weekend will be in the 80s which means tanking season is finally back. The North Platte Area Sports Commission hosts its 5th annual tanking race on Saturday, April 3. Participants are encouraged to decorate their tank and wear costumes. Although there is no theme, that leaves room for creativity.

“They will arrive at Cody Park just east of the river bridge at about 1 or 1:30. It’s pretty interesting to see who comes in first and how the river flows.” – Samantha Geisler- Sports and Events Marketing Specialist for Visitor’s Bureau

There will be a cash prize and a trophy awarded to the team who reaches the finish line the fastest. The team with the best designed tank will also receive a trophy and prize. Registration remains open through Friday. The cost to sign up is $140 for a group of four and can be done by visiting the North Platte Visitor’s Center or online by clicking here.

Funds go towards The North Platte Area Sports Commission. Tankers will set off on the Platte River at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
