Utility terrain vehicle, SUV collide near Virginia

BEATRICE – A collision involving a sport utility vehicle and a utility terrain vehicle caused injuries to both drivers Saturday night, south of Virginia, Nebraska.

Gage County Sheriff’s officers say a John Deere UTV driven by 65-year-old Steven Janssen, of rural Virginia was leaving a farm field onto South 134th Road, when it was struck by a southbound Kia Telluride SUV, driven by 62-year-old Valeria Hazen, of Blue Springs.

Beatrice Fire and Rescue and Filley Fire personnel were sent to the scene of the 6:20 p.m. collision.

Both Janssen and Hazen were taken to Beatrice Community Hospital with unspecified injuries.  Occupant protection was believed to be in use, in both vehicles. 

The collision happened near South 134th and Linden Road.  Sheriff’s officers are investigating the wreck.
