Updates on the Lincoln County jail remodeling project

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) – New cells were added to the Lincoln County Jail as a part of the remodeling project on Monday. The Lincoln County Jail is going to house federal inmates as well as inmates from neighboring counties and the state of Nebraska.

Other agencies pay to house inmates at the Lincoln County jail. The jail collects roughly $30,000 a week. That money will fund the remodeling project once the remodeling is completed. The money will not come from Lincoln County taxpayers.

As a part of the project, the booking area is being updated to add more observation rooms for mentally ill patients. The full renovation project is scheduled to be completed around November 2021.

The Lincoln County jail will be bringing in nearly $1 million each year. With the completion of the project, the jail will bring in another $1.5 million. After the remodeling project is paid for through various funding avenues, the money generates by the jail will be allocated towards tax relief for local property owners.
