UPDATE: Police searching for suspect in overnight Elm Creek shooting

ELM CREEK, Neb. -- A suspect is wanted after a mother and daughter were shot in a reported home invasion early Monday.

It happened just before 3:00 a.m. at a residence in Elm Creek.

The Buffalo County Sheriff's Office says 33-year-old Jeffrey Smith, of Kearney, is being sought. He's accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend and her 63-year-old mother at the mother's home. Both were critically injured and are being treated at a Kearney hospital.

Smith had been cited for intimidation and disturbing the peace after an incident at the home Sunday evening.

Smith reportedly fled the scene in an unknown vehicle and is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who knows his whereabouts is urged to contact Buffalo County authorities.
