Union Omaha player among 9 men charged in West Virginia scam case

OMAHA, Neb. — A soccer player in Omaha is facing charges in connection with a West Virginia scam case.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says 26-year-lld Abdul Osumanu, a citizen of Ghana who lives in Omaha, was among those arrested in a multi-agency sweep. He’s also a player for Union Omaha.

The nine men will face various charges, including mail fraud, wire fraud and money laundering.

Court documents say the scams targeted people looking for relationships on dating websites and other social media platforms.

The scam is estimated to have reached 200 people and involved at least $2.5 million.

Union Omaha acknowledged the arrest on a post made on social media this week.
