Two rescued from Lincoln trench collapse

A trench collapse in northwest Lincoln left two trapped at about 8 p.m. Wednesday. Workers were making emergency repairs to fiber-optic cables responsible for 911 and other services at Northwest 56th and Aurora Streets, west of the Lincoln Airport, said Acting Battalion Chief Troy Hurd. The first individual was trapped for nearly an hour and a half. A second individual, who became trapped after helping the first victim, was stuck for 19 minutes.
Hurd chose not to disclose the conditions of each individual because they could change, but "they are alive."
