Two people dead, one injured in weekend Cedar County crash

YANKTON, S.D. — Two people have died after a weekend crash in Cedar County on Highway 81 near the South Dakota border.

30-year-old Samantha Plantenberg, of Crofton, and Elizabeth 64-year-old Elizabeth Braunesreither, of Mission Hill, S.D., were killed in the accident.

The crash happened Saturday night, according to Cedar County Sheriff Larry Koranda.

Vehicles driving by Plantenberg and Braunesreither collided head-on, according to Koranda. After the initial collision, Pontiac G6 driven by 24-year-old Blake Johnston of O’Neill, hit one of the other vehicles. Johnston was treated and released for minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by the Cedar County Sheriff’s Office and the Nebraska State Patrol.
