Two overnight shootings reported in Omaha; one person dead

OMAHA, Neb. -- Police in Omaha are investigating the city's latest shooting death, as well as another shooting minutes later.

It happened early Wednesday. Police say officers were alerted at 2:19 a.m. to a shooting near the north Omaha intersection of N. 39th Street and Ames by the city's ShotSpotter system.

Arriving officers found 37-year-old Timothy Washington III, who was killed by the gunfire.

Police later received reports of two women who showed up in private vehicles at an Omaha hospital with injuries from the same shooting scene. Police say the women are expected to survive.

Just 18 minutes later, another shooting was reported, this one in the 3200 block of N. 28th Street. Two people, a man inside a car and a woman inside an apartment, were struck by gunfire. Both suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

No arrests had been reported in either shooting by midday Wednesday.
