Two injured after farm vehicle, freight truck collide

COLUMBUS — Two people were life-flighted from the scene of a two-vehicle wreck involving a farm implement in rural Platte County on Wednesday.

Two vehicles — a farm windrower and a freight truck — met at the intersection of 298th Street and 145th Avenue Wednesday just before noon, according to Lieutenant Kevin Schuller with the Platte County Sheriff’s Office.

They determined the white truck collided with the machine, crushing itself under the farm equipment and destroying some crops at the same time.

A medical helicopter transported both drivers from the scene to the hospital. Their conditions have not been updated.

Schuller said this is a warning of the dangers of intersections in the summer when cars tend to speed more, particularly in rural areas where stop signs are rare.
