Troopers respond to pedestrian vs. vehicle crash near Hemingford

HEMINGFORD - A Hemingford man is dead after he was struck by a vehicle on Highway 385 north of Hemingford Friday morning. 

The Nebraska State Patrol says Chester Ansley, 72, stopped the pickup he was driving when an object fell out of the bed. As he was attempting to retrieve the item, Ansley was struck by a northbound Chrysler PT Cruiser. He was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The driver of the PT Cruiser, Burley Shumpert, 32, of Chadron, was uninjured. 

The crash remains under investigation.
