Toxin alert for Iron Horse Trail Lake

DuBOIS – The Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy has issued a health alert for Iron Horse Trail Lake in Pawnee County due to harmful algai blooms.

Kirkman’s Cove Lake in Richardson County has been removed from the health alert.

A press release on Friday said samples taken earlier this week show toxin levels above U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recommendations at Iron Horse Trail Lake.

People can still use public areas, but are advised to avoid contact with the water and especially an activity that could lead to swallowing the water. Pets should not get near or be allowed to drink the water.

Weekly sampling has been conducted at 54 public lakes since May.
