Thieves Get $250,000 In Jewels From Grand Island Store

GRAND ISLAND – A Grand Island Jewelry store is out $250,000 after a suspected heist over the weekend.

Grand Island Police say it happened late Friday or early Saturday at the Oro-Mex Jewelers store in Grand Island.

GIPD says the suspects cut a hole in a cement wall of a church in the 400 block of West 3rd Street that adjoins the Oro-Mex Jewelers store.

Once in the jewelry store, they were then able to cut open two safes and take jewelry and other items valued at a total of $250,000.

In addition to the items taken, $50,000 in damage was done to the building while cutting the hole in the wall.

Authorities say they will be reviewing video from other stores in the area to aid in their investigation.
