DESHLER, NE — Southeast Nebraskans are converging on Deshler this week for the Thayer County Fair.
The town of just over 700 goes all out for its fair. Board president AJ Gausman says there’s one thing he wants all attendees to take away.
“A good time," Gausman said. "We’re here to have people come enjoy the county fair so hopefully that’s what people come and do.”
Race fans get the chance to check out the Thayer County Speedway’s renovated track on Saturday night. The Malvern Bank Super Late Models and Midwest Classic Stock Cars will compete in just the second night of races since the track got new clay and was re-slanted last year.
“Our old clay had washed off. Once that clay washes off, it starts tearing out the track and makes it for very rough racing conditions,” Gausman said.
The fair is also showcasing an Ozark Amusements Carnival, kids rodeo, beer garden and a Friday night country concert with DJ Bridwell, Logan Mize and Casey Donahew. After last year’s fair was limited to only youth ag events, Gausman says there’s a good reason to visit this year.
“Because we can," Gausman said. "We’ve put a lot of planning into this, we’ve put a lot of work and we just hope the public can come out and enjoy it.”
