Suspect in custody following Torrington homicide, arson and vehicle theft

The Torrington Police Department says a body found Tuesday morning was a homicide victim apparently related to a stolen vehicle and an arson fire.

A suspect is in custody. Names have not been released.

The Torrington Communications Center received a call about the fire around 6:10 AM with later information indicating it was suspicious in nature. That led to the fire being listed as a suspected arson.

A follow-up investigation led to the discovery of the body and while officers were still working at that location, a stolen vehicle was reported. It was found later with the help of the Goshen County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators concluded all the incidents were related and carried out by a single individual. That suspect was taken into custody on probable cause and is currently in the Goshen County Detention Center.

Torrington police are working with the Wyoming Division of Criminal InvestigationI and the Goshen County Coroner, but the investigation is active and ongoing with no additional information available at this time.
