Storm risk today for Central Kansas, Southern Nebraska

NEBRASKA CITY – The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Okla., has included a large portion southern and southeast Nebraska in enhanced or moderate risk for severe weather today.

Cities within the moderate risk category include Kearney, Hastings, Lexington and North Platte.

In the enhanced category are Lincoln, Topeka, Kan., Syracuse, Tecumseh, Auburn and Falls City.

Rock Port, Mo., and Sidney, Iowa are in the slight risk category.

Moderate risk is the fourth highest risk category, behind only high risk.

Forecasters say there is moderate risk of severe thunderstorms in north central Kansas and southern Nebraska.

An outbreak of storms is expected to begin Wednesday afternoon and continue into the night.

The greatest tornado threat is expected between 5 and 11 p.m.
