State lawmaker expected to enter governor’s race

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Add another name to the Nebraska governor’s race.

State Sen. Brent Lindstrom is expected to kick-off his campaign this Thursday.

The Republican lawmaker from Omaha has already scheduled several meet-and-greets around the state for Friday and Saturday.

In a recent Facebook post Lindstrom wrote “It’s time for a new generation of leadership.”

Lindstrom would join fellow Republicans Charles Herbster and NU Regent Jim Pillen in the race. Like Pillen, Lindstrom is a former Nebraska football player. Pillen's former coach, who had retired by the time Lindstrom played, has already endorsed Pillen.

Breland Ridenour has also announced his candidacy in the GOP primary.

As News Channel Nebraska first reported, former Republican Governor Dave Heineman is also considering a run.

There are no official Democratic candidates yet.
