Sidney warns of spread of invasive plant species

SIDNEY, NE — The spread of an invasive species in Sidney has city officials concerned.

Sidney's Code Enforcement Officer mailed over 100 letters Monday morning to property owners where bindweed has been seen. They hope to work with residents and educate them on control and prevention of the invasive species.

The city is also working on removal and prevention on city owned land and right of ways. Sidney Code Enforcement says they need property owner's help by taking control of the problem on their land.

Bindweed is considered a noxious weed in Cheyenne County. The City of Sidney lists as prohibited vegetation.
