Sidney, Kimball plan Arbor Day celebrations

SIDNEY, NE — A pair of communities in the Panhandle have plans to celebrate the upcoming Nebraska-founded holiday of Arbor Day. 

Sidney will once again mark the day with its annual tree giveaway on Saturday, April 24 at the Lodgepole Valley Youth Camp. Gates will open at 7:00 a.m. with the celebration beginning at 8:00 a.m. Chrissa Land from the Nebraska Forest Service will be in attendance to provide information on the trees and how to best care for them.

The Sidney Tree Board is offering nine species of trees this year. They include: Hackberry, Triumph Elm, Thorn-less Hawthorn, Bur Oak, Profusion Crabapple, Mesabi Cherry, Ponderosa Pine, Limber Pine and Austrian Pine. 

Kimball will hold its celebration at Gotte Park on Friday, April 30 at 2:00 p.m. Fourth graders will be plating trees in the park and the public is invited to attend.
